A famous example of a blood treaty was El Pacto de Sangre or Sandugo, concluded in 1565 between the Spanish explorer Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, chieftain of Bohol. An earlier blood treaty, the first between natives and Europeans, was concluded in 1521 between navigator Ferdinand Magellan and Raja Humabon of Cebu.
